A K-12 school located in South Hill, VA is seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter for a contract position for the entire school year. This role is ideal for an experienced professional with a strong background in interpreting American Sign Language (ASL) in educational settings, specifically within K-12 environments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Facilitate clear and accurate communication between Deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their teachers, classmates, and staff.
• Interpret classroom lectures, discussions, and school activities in real time, ensuring full access to the educational curriculum.
• Collaborate with educators and support staff to provide appropriate communication accommodations.
• Maintain confidentiality and foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
• Attend related meetings and training sessions as necessary to stay current on best practices in interpreting and educational compliance.

Desired Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in K-12 educational settings.
• Fluency in American Sign Language and strong understanding of Deaf culture.
• Certification from recognized interpreting organizations is preferred.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students and staff.
• Knowledge of educational terminology and classroom procedures.
