Title: Senior Manager, Compensation

Type: Contract / Hybrid

Location: Seattle, WA

Hourly Rate: $65 – $85/hour, depending on experience and qualifications

Summary:

Our client is seeking an accomplished Senior Manager, Compensation to lead the development and execution of compensation strategies that support business growth, talent retention, and operational excellence. This role will oversee a team of Compensation Analysts and serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership, with a strong focus on aligning compensation frameworks across a diverse workforce, including corporate, retail, and distribution center environments. The successful candidate will bring deep compensation expertise and proven experience managing large-scale, cross-functional initiatives in a dynamic and customer-driven organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, execution, and governance of compensation programs that support organizational objectives across corporate, store, and supply chain functions.
  • Manage and mentor a team of Compensation Analysts, ensuring effective program administration and continuous development of compensation capabilities.
  • Partner closely with Human Resources, Talent Acquisition, and Finance teams to develop market-competitive compensation strategies that support talent acquisition and retention goals.
  • Advise business leaders on compensation decisions, including salary offers, pay adjustments, incentive planning, and internal equity, grounded in market intelligence and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee annual compensation planning cycles, including merit reviews, incentive payout processes, and compensation communications.
  • Direct the analysis and interpretation of external market data, job benchmarking, and internal compensation analytics to inform structure design and pay decisions.
  • Collaborate with Workday and Payroll teams to ensure data accuracy, process efficiency, and seamless implementation of compensation programs and updates.
  • Stay abreast of federal, state, and local labor laws, FLSA classifications, and global pay equity regulations.
  • Ensure all compensation practices comply with all applicable requirements.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of compensation policies, practices, and tools that promote transparency, consistency, and operational scalability.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in Human Resources, with a minimum of 5 years focused on compensation leadership within the retail, consumer goods, or related industries.
  • Proven success in managing compensation programs across diverse employee populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage compensation projects with cross-functional impact and deliver data-driven insights to executive stakeholders.
  • Strong command of compensation compliance standards and evolving regulatory frameworks, including FLSA, minimum wage laws, and global disclosure requirements.
  • Hands-on experience working with HRIS platforms (preferably Workday), compensation modeling tools, and survey benchmarking databases.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to influence across levels and functions.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • An advanced degree or a CCP (Certified Compensation Professional) designation is preferred.
