We are seeking a National Aviation Civil Engineering Director. This individual leads and oversees the planning, design, and execution of complex civil engineering projects in the aviation sector across the country. This strategic leadership role is responsible for driving excellence in airport infrastructure design, regulatory compliance, sustainability, safety, and innovation. The director works closely with federal agencies, airport authorities, contractors, and internal engineering teams to deliver high-impact aviation projects, including runways, taxiways, aprons, roadways, and supporting infrastructure. About Us: AtkinsRéalis is one of the world’s most respected design, engineering and project management consultancies. AtkinsRéalis has been providing infrastructure planning, engineering, construction, environmental consulting, urban planning, architecture, and program management services to public and private clients across the United States for more than 50 years. AtkinsRéalis has the depth and breadth of expertise to respond to the most technically challenging and time-critical infrastructure projects and the urgent transition to a low-carbon economy. How will you contribute to the team? Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement national strategies for aviation civil engineering projects, aligning with organizational goals, industry trends, and regulatory frameworks. Project Oversight: Direct the planning, budgeting, design, permitting, and construction phases of airport infrastructure projects, ensuring quality, safety, and timely delivery. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure projects meet FAA, ICAO, TSA, and other federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, including environmental and safety standards. Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as the primary liaison with airport operators, federal agencies (e.g., FAA), state DOTs, consultants, and contractors. Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of engineers, project managers, and technical staff. Promote a culture of innovation, collaboration, and professional development. Technical Expertise: Provide technical guidance and approvals on complex design elements, including pavement engineering, grading and drainage, utility coordination, and airside/landside integration. Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks in project planning and execution, including environmental impacts, geotechnical issues, and construction challenges. Budget Management: Develop and manage multi-million-dollar project and program budgets, ensuring cost-efficiency and resource optimization. What will you contribute? Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required; Master’s degree or MBA preferred. Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license required; eligibility for licensing in multiple states preferred. Experience: Minimum 15 years of civil engineering experience with at least 8 years in aviation infrastructure; prior experience in a national or regional leadership role strongly preferred. Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of FAA design standards (e.g., Advisory Circulars), pavement design, airfield safety, environmental assessments, and CAD/BIM technologies. Skills: Exceptional leadership, communication, and negotiation skills; strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
